A studio built around the watches people keep
Mongkut opened in Phra Nakhon with a simple premise: that watches people have worn for years, or inherited, or saved for, deserve a careful hand rather than a hurried one. We named the studio after the Thai word for crown — a nod to the crown of the watch, the small stem through which time is set, the quiet detail that holds everything together.
In the early years, the work came mostly through word of mouth from a small circle of collectors and enthusiasts in Bangkok who had grown tired of sending their pieces overseas for basic servicing. Over time that circle widened. We took on more complicated work — chronographs with worn pushers, vintage pieces with discontinued parts, dials that had faded gracefully over decades and needed attention that matched their character.
What has not changed is the approach. We take one piece at a time. We write down what we find. We ask before we act. The studio is not trying to be the fastest or the cheapest — it is trying to be the one you trust with a watch that matters to you.
We are based at 56/3 Thanon Ratchadamnoen in Phra Nakhon, a short walk from the old city. The studio is open during regular business hours and we are reachable by phone or email for initial enquiries. Over two decades working on mechanical movements, with a particular focus on vintage calibres from Swiss and Japanese manufacturers.

Dial & Case Specialist
Trained in surface restoration and finishing, Nattaporn handles dial and case work with a light touch and a preference for preserving patina where it suits the piece.

Client Liaison & Records
Wirote manages client communication, maintains condition records for each piece, and ensures the paperwork reflects what actually happened at the bench.

Receipt Photography
Every piece is photographed on arrival — case, dial, movement if accessible — so there is a clear record of its condition before any work begins.
Written Work Log
Each step taken is recorded. Clients receive a summary of what was done, what parts were replaced, and what lubricants were used.
Approval at Each Stage
No significant step proceeds without your agreement. If we find something that changes the scope or cost, we stop and contact you first.
Controlled Workshop Environment
The bench area is kept at a stable temperature and humidity to protect movement components and lubricants during the service process.
Secure Storage
All pieces in the studio are held in locked storage when not actively being worked on. A physical log tracks location within the studio at all times.
Post-Service Rate Testing
After servicing, movements are measured for accuracy before being returned. Results are included in the condition report given to each client.

What matters to us and why it matters to you
Mongkut works across a fairly defined scope: mechanical watch servicing, dial and hands refinishing, and curatorial overhauls for pieces with collecting or personal significance. We do not offer battery replacements or strap alterations — not because we consider those things unimportant, but because keeping our scope narrow means we can be genuinely skilled within it.
The Bangkok market for watch service has changed considerably in recent years. More people are keeping older pieces rather than replacing them. More collectors are paying attention to provenance and originality. We think both of these developments are good ones, and our work reflects that view. We lean toward conservation over restoration, toward discussing options before acting, and toward being honest when something is beyond us.
On the technical side, we maintain a range of precision tools suited to movements from the mid-twentieth century onwards. For older calibres, we source parts through established supply networks across Thailand, Japan, and Europe. When a particular component is genuinely unobtainable, we say so and discuss the realistic options with the client.
For many of the pieces we work on, Mongkut is the third or fourth person to open the case. We take that seriously. It shapes how we handle the work and how we talk about it with the people who bring their watches to us.
